The latest papal encyclical, "Caritas in veritate" (Charity in Truth)
is dedicated to human development in the context of the current global economic crisis. In it, a statement appears in paragraph 17 that caught my attention. I underlined the phrase drew an asterisk behind it that referred to the footer and there I wrote: "strongly disagree." Here I explain what this sentence and why, to me, is very unfortunate. Benedict XVI quoted

I underlined the phrase drew an asterisk behind it that referred to the footer and there I wrote: "strongly disagree." Here I explain what this sentence and why, to me, is very unfortunate. Benedict XVI quoted and supports at that point 17 of the encyclical, a statement of Paul VI: "Each one remains, whatever be these influences affecting him might be, the main architect of its success or failure. " This sentence is great and very optimistic, so it's a shame that is false. I wish it were true, but it seems to me totally false.
Remember what he said I remember that St. Paul, that God subjects us to temptation, but that such temptation is never greater than the potential of each. And so the wisdom goes like this: "God squeezes but does not drown."
is really a statement consistent with Christian beliefs, if man is the son of God and is free, always will be free sufficient to recover their difficulties or surrender to them. Therefore not be blamed for bringing Benedict endorsed. However, despite being consistent with Catholic ideology is a false belief.
For me, direct experiences and indirect experiences (say from personal experience, from having lived, experienced, not merely have reflected theoretically) is evidence that sometimes the circumstances that operate on the individual than you and leave you defenseless .
In fact, it is something contradictory in the same encyclical, at the very end, in paragraph 79 to read: "that all men can learn to pray to the Father and beg [...] not We are too undergo the tests. " Well if he pleads that we do not unduly subject to testing will have a possibility to do the opposite, ie we submit to them too! And if this happens, we are subjected to too much evidence, it seems clear that individual is no longer the "main architect of its success or failure, especially when the individual who has it is not strong mentally.
Moreover, the idea that however great the adversity, everyone has the last word to overcome or surrender to them, is widespread even outside of Catholic thought. And we must recognize that for many people is true: many are the real architects of their destiny, that is unquestionable. However, with that for a single person that statement is not true, and can not be elevated to full universal, with only one person has such difficulties that their freedom is annulled, what Benedict says is false. Occurs as with the definition of a living being learned in school: human beings are born, grow, reproduce and die. This definition is false: it is true that is true in most cases, but if I do not reproduce it would be outside the category of being alive. L The question
to come to settle Schopenhauer in his "The art of being happy ", when he explains that each individual has a degree of resilience (using a more modern term), an ability to fit the difficulties and recover them. Catholics would not disagree with this, but claim that God always will take care that the adversity that faces every man will respect the degree of resilience and mental strength. However, the reality and do not consider that case Schopenhauer. Sadly, sometimes the evils that supports a man beyond their level of resilience, and the circumstances then bury the human soul and its freedom.
What happens then? Well, it is a mystery that God allows human beings that are buried under the circumstances, but is evidence that this occurs. In such cases, we must recognize our limitations, to recognize that what we do not make any sense, it probably will in the field of all, an area which is unknowable to us. The designs of the Lord are inscrutable, and for better or for worse we see before us a tree, but we are unable to recognize the immensity of the forest.
